Who We Are
We are the Popos Hormiguitas Foundation, a charity dedicated to bringing relief to people in extreme circumstances in Nicaragua. On January 25, 2011, our foundation was granted Public Benefit Status by the Internal Revenue Service of the United States of America, with retroactive effect as of June 25, 2009. We became exempt from federal taxes under section 501 (c) (3) of the internal revenue code. Contributions are deductible under section 170 of the code. The foundation is also qualified to receive deductible legacies of taxes, devices, transfers or gifts under section 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the code. Fundación Popos concentrates its efforts to attend to what we perceive to be the two most vulnerable groups of our society: children and the elderly. To this end, we direct our efforts to, among other activities, collect donations of merchandise such as clothing, footwear, school supplies, medicines and toys.
In order to guarantee the goods we collect and reach needy families in Nicaragua, the Foundation organizes events that help us pay for maritime expenses, insurance and other related expenses incurred during the delivery of said merchandise to Evangelical and Catholic communities in Nicaragua.
Sometimes we prefer to buy the needs of children from our projects in Nicaragua to avoid having to pay for shipping and customs. This is more effective.
We are also determined to expand the scope of activities as we grow. We have included the construction of schools, mental health centers and the improvement of existing schools and other facilities among our present objectives, but we need your support. If you want to be part of these projects can come true, then do not hesitate to contact us or click on the donation button below to give your financial support.
