About Us

The Popos Hormiguitas Foundation was started in June 2009 by Amelia María Elena Mendoza and Hazel Arroyo. They realized that children and the elderly in Nicaragua were having very hard times to maintain a decent standard of living. Our founders began to collect the used clothing products and each time they traveled to Nicaragua, they brought the donations to the churches. The commitment that Amelia María Elena and Hazel had, reached a point where they and their relatives left their own luggage and instead used all the space available in the airline that allowed them, to take donations to different churches in Nicaragua .

The words of her efforts spread and she joined more women and the collection of donations expanded to toys and some items in good condition. The number of items increased dramatically and our next challenge was to find a way to bring all these donations in an affordable and effective way. Ocean transportation became the obvious choice and we sent our donations to Nicaragua in containers and was distributed to both Catholic and Evangelical churches.

We are receiving donations in CubeSmart. Open 7 days a week. We do not accept cash. All contributions must be through PayPal on our website, check or money order, all in the name of the Popos Hormiguitas Foundation.
